Lahore Museum

Lahore Museum is an archaeological museum opened in 1894 and containing examples of the arts and crafts of the province of Punjab, including sculpture, coins, and Kangra (Pahari) and Mughal paintings and fabrics. Greco-Buddhist sculptures excavated from sites in the Peshāwar district are on display. The central part of the archaeological gallery has a stūpa drum of Sikri, carved with scenes from Buddha’s life. The Central Museum’s collection of jewelry is especially notable, with objects from the Trans-Indus territory. There is also a comprehensive collection of musical instruments and a good collection of elaborately ornaments.

Lahore Zoo

Established in 1872, the Lahore Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the world. It started as a small aviary that was donated by Lala Mela Ram. Gradually it developed and its animal collection increased, today the Zoo houses about 947 animals of 104 species including 703 birds of 71 species, 34 reptiles of 12 and 210 mammals of 20 species. It remained under the management of Lahore Municipal Corporation from 1872 to 1923. Thereafter, its control was given to Deputy Commissioner, Lahore until 1962. Then its management was placed under the Livestock and Dairy Development Department. Finally the management of Lahore Zoo was entrusted to the Wildlife & Parks Department in 1982. During the period 1872 to 1982, it remained a small entity with very little development taking place. Since its transfer to Wildlife Department 1982 there have occurred a number of changes in housing the exhibits, layout of buildings, landscape pattern, administration etc with these initiative/development it become self-financing organization and now it is self-reliant. It is located in the heart of the city and is easily accessible to the people belonging to all walks of life.
 

Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila)

The Lahore Fort, locally referred to as Shahi Qila is citadel of the city of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is located in the northwestern corner of the Walled City of Lahore. The trapezoidal composition is spread over 20 hectares. Origins of the fort go as far back as antiquity, however, the existing base structure was built during the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar (1556–1605), and was regularly upgraded by subsequent rulers, having thirteen gates in all. Thus the fort manifests the rich traditions of Mughal architecture.Some of the famous sites inside the fort include: Sheesh Mahal, Alamgiri Gate, Naulakha pavilion, and Moti Masjid. In 1981, the fort was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Chauburji

Chauburji  is one of the most famous monuments among the structures and buildings of the Mughal era in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. The Chauburji gateway remains of an extensive garden known to have existed in Mughal times. The establishment of this garden is attributed to Mughal Princess Zeb-un-Nisa, 1646 A.D., which appears in one of the inscriptions on the gateway. The gateway consists of four towers and contains much of the brilliant tile work with which the entire entrance was once covered.

Lahore Air Pollution

The major air pollutants present in the air of Lahore are: oxides of nitrogen (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and respirable dust (PM2.5). Their level in the city was higher than the National Air Quality Index (AQI). According to the AQI, pollution level from 0 to 25 is considered clean, 26 to 50 moderate, 51to 100 unhealthy, 101 to 200 severe and 201to 300 hazardous.

Data collected by the Environment Protection Department (EPD) during the June clearly reflected the severity of air pollution.

On June 27, the AQI was 46 (moderate category) while, on June 25, the AQI in Gulberg area was 59(category of unhealthy). On June 23, AQI was 113 (severe category), which means that pollution levels remained higher than standard level.

On June 21, the AQI was 128 (severe category). On June 18, the AQI was 136 (severe category). On June 9 and 15, the AQI was 90 and 105 respectively and they fall under unhealthy, severe category. On June 4, the AQI was 107(severe category). On June 01, the AQI was 136, which means that pollution levels remained 36 per cent more than the national standards and health wise falls in severe category.
